Before Surgery

Wash your hair & remove all makeup, eyelashes

Ensure you have not had botulinum toxin in the forehead, corrugators or brow region if undertaking eyelid surgery as this can affect surgical procedure and outcome

Please inform the day surgery if you are concerned about a possible infection or illness

Ensure we have your full list of medications, allergies and medical history.

Anaesthetists and hospitals will need to know if you are taking GLP1 inhibitors which can delay gastric emptying

The surgeon would like to have the option of plan surgical timing around the ability to modify or stop blood thinners, pain relievers from the NSAID class or supplemental therapy or to delay surgery following botulinum toxin injections

Ensure you have a carer to collect you postop,
With sedation on board you should not

drive or operate equipment

make any important decisions inc legal decisions

for at least 24hrs or advised by Dr Kalapesi or her anaesthetist
Do not wear contact lenses following eye or eyelid surgery
For Eyelid surgery
you should

Use cool packs, preferably soft refreezable gel packs or eye masks to ice the eyelids and bring down the swelling

for upper eyelid surgery, use frequently preservative free drops to operated eye as prescribed postop by Dr Kalapesi to prevent drying and irritation to the ocular surface
No makeup, swimming, gardening or strenuous activity until cleared by Dr Kalapesi
It can be advisable to wear sunglasses to protect the wounds when outdoors, mask the visibility of bruising and also following cataract surgery these can reduce glare symptoms as you adjust to your newly brightened world
